05 Jan The top questions to ask your wedding cake supplier
One of the big parts of any wedding celebration is when the bride and groom stand together and cut their cake.
Not only is this because it has symbolic importance to the celebration, but also because it means that the guests will soon be free to take a slice.
This means that when it comes to choosing your wedding cake, you are going to want to make sure that you get things right.
It can be hard to know whether or not you have the right cake supplier, but you can make things that little bit easier by making the effort to ask them some questions.
To help you to make the right decision for your wedding cake, we have put together some of the top questions that you should have your list to ask your wedding cake supplier.
Are you a registered food business and do you have a food hygiene rating?
More and more bakers are what we refer to as hobby bakers.
This means that whilst they may be able to bake an amazing cake or two, they don’t actually run their talent like a business.
With your wedding cake being such an important item, you are going to want to make sure that you go to the best.
Therefore it may be a good idea to ask them not only if they are registered as a food business, but also if they have a food hygiene certificate that you can see.
Did you make all the cakes in your portfolio?
A good quality baker will have a portfolio behind them showing all the amazing cakes that they have made over time.
Being able to see this portfolio is a huge helping hand in making your decision (as well as inspiring you with some cake ideas of your own).
It may sound like a strange question to ask, but it is important to ensure that baker is responsible for all the cakes that they feature in their portfolio, which will stop you feeling duped if you receive a cake that doesn’t look quite how you wanted it to.
What size portions do you work on?
A cake will be baked to fit a number of portions.
As in, you can request a cake for 100 people or for 50 people and this will make a difference to the size that the baker will make you.
Whilst you are going to be able to trust that they know what they are talking about in cake size, it might be worthwhile asking them to clarify their portion sizes, as the last thing that you are going to want is to order a cake for your guests only to find that they get a slither of cake that they can barely even taste.
Do you offer cake tasting?
It sounds like great fun to us, but the idea of cake tasting is that it helps you to see not only what the cakes taste like, but also what flavour is right for you.
Not every baker offers cake tasting sessions, so, if this is an important part of the process, then you really should make sure that this is one of the questions that you ask your supplier.
Having the perfect wedding cake is important, not only should it look great, but it should taste just as amazing too.
So, if you want to impress your guests, make sure that you take the time to ask the right questions of your cake maker and be left with a sponge that is perfect in all the right places.
