The Duties Of The Father Of The Bride

There are plenty of important men during your wedding day, however, one that you should never underestimate is the father of the bride.

So, what does the father of the bride actually need to do during the wedding day?

Apart from being full of pride that their beautiful daughter is getting to marry the man of their dreams.

Pay for the wedding

Whilst the father of the bride may not have a huge part to play in the wedding planning, the tradition is that they often have the responsibility of picking up the bill afterwards.

This is a relatively outdated approach and one that we don’t seem to see too often now.

In fact, the majority of couples will often pay for their wedding themselves, maybe with help from both their families.

The best thing to do is to have a chat early on in the planning and make sure that you all know where you stand, else there could be some confusion later on.

Keep the bride (and everyone else) calm on the big day

If there is one thing that you learn when you get married, it is that your nerves are going to take over, whether you are a normally nervous person or not.

One great, yet unofficial role that a father of the bride can take up is chief calmer down.

Keeping everyone cool and calm is important, as this will ensure the day goes as smoothly as possible and that everyone has the best time possible too.

Travel with the bride to the wedding venue

If you ask someone who has recently got married what was one of the best moments of the day, then they may just say travelling to the wedding venue with their dad is up there.

It is the ideal moment to chat, or simply sit together before all the celebrations and tears kick in for the rest of the day.

Walk your daughter down the aisle

For those men who have daughters, the moment that you walk her down the aisle is probably one that you will look forward to for most of her life.

It is one of the most important parts of any wedding, not only because it is when she makes her entrance, but also because it is to symobolise you taking her from her old life into her new one.

Also known as “giving her away”.

Make a speech

When you are a guest at a wedding, one thing that you are likely to look forward to are the speeches, and the father of the bride speech is the one that kicks everything else off.

The idea of this particular speech is that it is funny, heart warming and memorable.

It should summarise your love for your daughter and could feature some stories of her growing up.

As you can see, there are plenty of things for the father of the bride to think about.

However, the main thing is to think about your daughter and making sure that she has the best day possible.

As you can see, there are plenty of things that the father of the bride can do during the wedding prep and the day itself.

The thing to remember is that it is down to the father of the bride and the bride herself to decide just how much they do and what things are most important to them.

After all, every bride is different.
